presales questions- creating new joomla site

Hi,
We run a small wedding bakery business in Scotland, and are going to move to Joomla-We are very keen to use a uk-based hosting company.

A few questions before we ‘take the plunge’-

Do you offer email hosting/redirection to fwd mail to UK isps such as plusnet and fasthosts?

Do you offer help with getting Joomla (2.5) installed?

Do you offer any support on installing (small-business) ecommerce options? We are currently using romancart on existing site but we don’t think this will work in a Joomla environment...

We anticipate running the existing website in parallel with the new Joomla site- can we use a temp. Domain name while we are developing the Joomla site and then transfer in the domain name once the Joomla site is ready, prob. in 2-3 months?

Do you support video - currently using jwplayer to display short flash.flv files.

Finally does joomla support 'sub-directories' eg. www.mysite.com/product1

Hope you can assist a joomla 'newbie'...

Hi,

I will try to answer your questions.

You can do pretty much anything with email. many of us use Google Apps.

Do you offer help with getting Joomla (2.5) installed?
Strictly no. But the Joomla Utilities make it a snap.

Scripts are your responsibility. But there are many experienced forum members.

Yes, you can develop on a temporary URL.

Should be possible.

Joomla site are a product of scripts and are written with the use of the PHP language.

Now it all depends what you want from Joomla, Search Engine Friendly URL (SEF) or Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

With Joomla you can use the "built-in" SEF settings or use add-ons.
That will make the links more readable.
And I have been assured that Search Engines will crawl you site even if it was not set.

SEO is a different proposition.
You have to make sure that the contents etc. of your site are such, that the Search Engines will evaluate the page worthwhile to give it a higher ranking.
